4 Under-Appreciated Six Flags Locations

4 Under-Appreciated Six Flags Locations

It’s true that the Six Flags brand is one of the most famous names in the US, if not the whole world. You’ve got at least 21 locations to pick from, and that number is bound to rise with several more bought-out parks that will eventually be included in the Six Flags lineup.

Just about any list of the best amusement parks in the US will contain a mention of a Six Flags location, and the same goes for any list of the best rides. Go to the top locations, such as the ones in LA, Georgia, San Antonio, and Chicago, and your entire family is bound to have a great time.

Unfortunately, not all Six Flags locations are equal. Some aren’t all that great, though that’s more a matter of opinion. But it’s certainly true that some Six Flags locations aren’t as appreciated as the great ones.

Here are the Six Flags locations that aren’t really all that esteemed, but you may still want to visit them. Who knows—maybe one of them may actually become your favorite?

1. Hurricane Harbor Concord

This was formerly known as Waterworld California before it got its current name in 2018. Six Flags made it more interesting by building in it the interactive water play area known as Splashwater Island. It’s huge, with a 4-story play structure and more than a hundred attractions.

But while the waterslides are fairly interesting and the park itself is great for the kids, there’s really not much here for the adults. Basically, if you’re one of the parents, you’ll just end up as bored babysitters. And Concord itself isn’t exactly full of touristy spots, unlike the other cities in California.

2. Hurricane Harbor Phoenix

This used to be WaterWorld Safari before Six Flags bought it out and then renamed the place. It’s undoubtedly great for the younger kids, but it’s not as much fun for the adults. There aren’t any really big roller coasters here, plus Phoenix isn’t actually much of a tourist spot compared to the other locations. That’s why it’s not all that appreciated at all.

3. Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in Houston

This was renamed Hurricane Harbor Splashtown only at the start of 2019. Before that, it was the Wet ‘n’ Wild Splashtown. This is the largest waterpark in the whole city, although technically it’s located in the Spring suburb of Houston. It’s actually quite popular among the locals.

But it’s not all that popular among those from out of town. Houston isn’t exactly among the more popular tourist spots, plus the water park isn’t really all that special.

4. Frontier City and Hurricane Harbor in OKC

This pair of theme parks are close enough to each other so they’re listed as a single entry. Frontier City is somewhat unique, as you get a Western theme for the park. Hurricane Harbor (formerly known as White Water Bay) is a water-park with plenty of water-soaked rides and play areas for the kids.

These parks are in Oklahoma City, which doesn’t really appear in the top tourist cities in the US (though supposedly, it’s improving). But that’s not the only reason why the place doesn’t attract too many visitors from out of state. The Western theme is considered outdated these days—when was the last time there was a blockbuster Western-themed movie? As for Hurricane Harbor, it’s the same problem. The kids might find the place fun, but the adults will just have the same generic thrills to endure.

Final Words

We’re not saying you shouldn’t visit these locations. But we have to admit, that if you’re flying in from another part of the country, then you might find other Six Flags locations a lot more fun for the whole family—including the adults!
